Skiing in Obertauern

Obertauern is one of the most snow-reliable ski resorts in Austria.
From the end of November to the beginning of May, numerous groomed slopes delight the hearts of skiers. With modern lift facilities, it goes summit-wards. Glittering powder snow slopes in Obertauern's backcountry tempt adventurous freeriders. A special highlight are the many family offers.

With our finely interconnected lift systems, you can comfortably commute between the valley and the mountain, from chairlift to drag lift, from the south to the north side. Comfortable cable car systems guarantee the highest safety during your ski vacation.

The "Tauernrunde"
The "Tauernrunde" takes you around the village, where you can go from lift to lift either clockwise or counterclockwise. In one direction, you will find only blue slopes; if you go in the other direction, slopes of all difficulty levels provide varied skiing enjoyment for the whole family.

Super 7 Summit Tour
Explore the seven highest mountain stations in the Obertauern ski area: Zehnerkarbahn, Hundskogelbahn, Panoramabahn, Gamsleitenbahn 2, Plattenkarbahn, Schaudbergbahn, and Seekareckbahn. The descent covers challenging slopes and long pistes - which is why we recommend this tour only for experienced winter sports enthusiasts.

Gamsleiten 2
For all experienced and vertigo-free skiers, the descent from Gamsleiten 2 is a must. It is one of the steepest slopes in the Alps with a gradient of up to 100%. You can reach the summit with the 2-seater chairlift, where you can enjoy the unique mountain panorama. You will cover an altitude difference of 362 meters on the descent.

In a 30m long wooden tunnel, eerie figures await daring skiers. Night ghosts, the witch Walpurga, and other scary monsters ensure a special spooky fun in the wintery Obertauern.

Bibo Bear family ski park
For the little racers, three special slopes have been developed in the Bibo Bear family ski park. The technique of skiing is intended to be conveyed in a playful manner. The training of fine motor skills, balance, acclimatization to the winter sports equipment, and of course fun are the main focus here. Wave tracks, mogul slopes, and small jumps make the ski day in Bibo Bear family skiing park an adventure for little racers.

Bobby Land
For bigger kids, there is a cool wave track and an exciting course, while "Bobby's Slalom" playfully introduces carving. For breaks in between, a cozy lounge invites you to warm up. Moreover, Bobby Land delights with a magical children's igloo and the Ski Ghost Train in the fairy tale park at the Schaidbergbahn. Children up to 6 years ride here for free!

Monster Alert on Bobby's Mountain of Animals
A snow monster is eating the snow – and Bobby, the little snow rabbit, and his friends must act! Together with Frido Fox, Hansi Deer and many others, they set out to scare away the beast. At the Kehrkopfbahn (slopes 7a & 7b) young ski fans can expect an adventurous thrill!

Bobby's "Tauernrunde" (Duration about 4 hours)

Bobbys "Tauernrunde“ is perfect for the smallest ski fans: a gentle slope that is ideal for beginners. Exciting highlights such as the funny ghost train, the fairy tale forest, and a fun wave track await here. A stop at Bibo Bear provides variety, and with a bit of luck, Snow Bunny Bobby might make an appearance!

An all-around thrilling experience where ski fun and the joy of discovery are guaranteed.

Night Skiing
Every monday and thursday, a special event awaits you at the Edelweiss 4 chairlift: From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, a roughly 1.5 km long excellently groomed slope is available for night skiing. A floodlight system provides the necessary illumination.

Freeriding in Obertauern

Freeride paradise Obertauern

Obertauern is considered an absolute insider tip and hotspot for ski touring and ski guiding. The numerous mountain peaks in Obertauern, different tour lengths, and varied descents invite participants for both easy and challenging ski tours. At the end comes the powder snow descent - a sense of freedom that is second to none!

The ski or mountain guides will accompany you and lead you to the most beautiful places like Gnadenalm, Südwienerhütte, Gamsspitzl, and much more. Langlaufparadies Obertauern: Perfect trails for beginners and professionals

Perfectly groomed trails, both for classic technique and for skating, offer everything that the heart of a cross-country skier desires.

Discover the variety of tracks: the Gnadenalm trail (approx. 20 km), the Hundsfeld trail (approx. 6 km), the World Cup trail (approx. 6 km), the Twenger Au cross-country ski trail (approx. 23 km), and the Taurach trail (approx. 12 km).

Our experienced snow sports instructors will show you the best technique in the cross-country skiing course. Or simply treat yourself to a cross-country skiing taster course and dive relaxed into the world of Nordic skiing.
